Philemon 1:10 I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment.
Who is your spiritual child? Who is it you are “parenting” in the LORD? If you have children in your home, they are your very first priority. Paul, the author of this letter was a very old man, no children in his home…. Yet, here we see him appealing to the church for his child … the one he “fathered” while in prison.
Paul was a man who knew that no matter what circumstances he found himself in, no matter where he was, that was the place his Savior had him to be so that he might “father” more children --- win souls! We would do well to see our lives in the same manner. Right now, the LORD has given me and my family the opportunity to win spiritual daughters and sons right where we live – in our neighborhood. I have been given the opportunity to win a daughter at Walmart. Some of these opportunities have taken years to just get to the point of conception!
Paul could have simply sat in his jail cell and pout about his situation … he saw it as an opportunity to win a soul, not sit and have a pity party. We are not currently in jail…. Most of us are not even suffering any form of persecution .. we are just living out our lives with relative ease ….. so…. We ought to be fulltime soul winners because there really aren’t any barriers to keep us distracted or discouraged. So, who is it you are currently “parenting” in the LORD? Who is it that will be your next (or very first) spiritual child?
